    John Sutton CALDWELL, born 1811/12, Franklin County, Missouri, son of Andrew and Nancy Ann (FARRAR) CALDWELL.

      John married 1st Lucinda CALDWELL 16 Jan 1840, Franklin County, Missouri.

      John married 2nd Rhoda Ann "Rhody" SCOTT circa 1849, Franklin County, Missouri. She was born 1827/28, Missouri.

      John married 3rd M. J. ___?___ circa 1858, Franklin County, Missouri. She was born 1840/41, Missouri.

      John's father, Andrew, was the son of Oliver and Elizabeth Ann (___?___) CALDWELL of Coldwell, Londonderry, Ireland.

      On 2 Sep 1850, the census shows John S. (38) and Rhody (22) CALDWELL living in Franklin County, Missouri. He was a farmer. Their real estate was valued at $500. With them were: James CALDWELL age 10; Robert CALDWELL age 8; and Fenton M. CALDWELL age 5. All were born in Missouri.

      On 30 Aug 1860, the census shows John S. (45) and M. J. (19) CALDWELL living in Boone Township, Franklin County, Missouri. With him were J. E. CALDWELL age 20 male; R. S. CALDWELL age 18 male; F. G. CALDWELL age 15 male; P. Scott CALDWELL age 10 male; and J. M. CALDWELL age 7 months male. John was a farmer. His personal property was valued at $200.00.

    Fenton G. CALDWELL, born 1844/45, Missouri, son of John Sutten and Lucinda (CALDWELL) CALDWELL. Fenton died Aug 1877, Cooke County, Texas, at the age of 35. Burial in Dye Cemetery, Cooke County, Texas.

      Fenton married Serna ALTOM. She was born 1853/54, Franklin County, Missouri, daughter of Spencer Stephen and Melvina (PARKS) ALTUM (See Altom Family Chapter 4). Serna died 1919/20, Cooke County, Texas. She was 66 years old. Burial in Dye Cemetery, Cooke County, Texas.

      Fenton was the first CALDWELL to go to Marion County, Illinois.

      On 23 Jun 1870, the census show Fenton COLWELL age 24, born in Missouri, living in Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois, in the household of Thomas and Mary FOSTER. He was a farm laborer.

      On 17 Jun 1880, the census shows S. (58) and H (65) AULTUM living in Cooke County, Texas. He was said to have been born in Illinois, his father in Georgia and mother in Virginia. She was said to have been born in Ohio and her parents in Pennsylvania. He was a minister. With them were their grandchildren: John CALDWELL age 9, born IL; R CALDWELL age 7, born IL; E. CALDWELL age 5, born IL; and Eva CALDWELL age 3, born Texas. Also with them were their son and daughter-in-law, J. P. (34) and Mary (34) AULTUM. He was a physician. He was said to have been born in Missouri, his father in Illinois and mother in Kentucky. Mary was said to have been born Missouri, her father in North Carolina and mother in Mississippi. Also living there was their widowed daughter, S. CALDWELL age 27, born Missouri, father in Illinois and mother in Kentucky.

      On 4 Jul 1900, the census shows Robert CALDWELL age 27, living in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas. He was said to have been born Feb 1873, Illinois and his parents in Missouri. He was a Dairyman. He was renting his home. With him was his sister, Eva CALDWELL age 22, born Aug 1877, Texas.

      On 4 Jul 1900, the census shows Elmer E. CALDWELL age 25, living in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas. He was said to have been born Jan 1875, Illinois and his parents in Missouri. He was a day laborer.

      On 21 Jan 1920, the census shows an Elmer CALDWELL age 45 living in Johnson County, Wyoming. He and his parents were said to have been born in Illinois. He was a cowboy on the range.

      Robert married Minnie ___?___ . Minnie was born Feb 1871, Arkansas. Minnie died 22 Dec 1938, Cooke County, Texas.

      On 2 Jun 1900, the census shows John (29) and Minnie (29) CALDWELL living in Cooke County, Texas. He was said to have been born Jan 1871, Illinois, father in Missouri and mother in Illinois. Minnie was said to have been born Feb 1871, Arkansas, father in Tennessee and mother unknown. John was a farm laborer. They were renting their farm. They were said to have been married 6 years and that she had given birth to 1 child with 1 living. With them was their daughter, Edna R. CALDWELL age 9 months, born Aug 1899, Texas.

      On 25 Apr 1910, the census shows John S. (38) and Minnie (39) CALDWELL living in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas. He was said to have been born in Illinois, his father in Missouri and mother in Illinois. Minnie was said to have been born in Arkansas, father in Tennessee and mother in Arkansas. John was a city policeman. They owned their home with a mortgage. They were said to have been married 16 years and that she had given birth to 1 child with 1 living.       On 15 Jan 1920, the census shows John S. (48) and Minnie (48) CALDWELL living at 405 North Clement Street, Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas. He was said to have been born in Illinois, his father in Missouri and mother in Illinois. Minnie was said to have been born in Arkansas and her parents in Tennessee. John was a driver for the fire company. They owned their home free of mortgage. With them was their daughter and son-in-law, Ralph (21) and Edna (20) KENNEDY. He was said to have been born in Texas, his father in Georgia and mother in Tennessee. He was a laborer. There was also a boarder living at the house.

      On 2 Apr 1930, the census shows John S. (58) and Minnie (59) CALDWELL living at 411 North Clement Street, Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas. He was said to have been born in Illinois, his father in Missouri and mother in Illinois. Minnie was said to have been born in Arkansas and her parents in Tennessee. John was a grocery clerk at a grocery store. They owned their home, valued at $1,500. They owned a radio. With them was their grandson, Ralph KENNEDY age 7, born Texas, as were his parents.

      Edna married Ralph Kennedy.

      On 12 Sep 1918, Ralph's World War 1 Draft Registration Card has, Ralphy Roy KENNEDY age 20, born 26 Feb 1898. He was living in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas. He was a laborer at the ice company. He nearest relative was C. P. KENNEDY of Gainesville. Ralph was tall with medium build, brown eyes and black hair.

      On 22 Sep 1932, the Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "East Zion: The community was saddened to hear of the death of Endie CALDWELL Sept. 14."

 

      On 18 Mar 1943, the Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "East Meadow Branch: Miss Edith Louise CALDWELL was given a birthday party in honor of her 11th birthday."

 

      Nancy Jane CALDWELL married Mordecai LEE 2 Oct 1879, Marion County, Illinois. (Note: Mordecai was the son of V. Q. and Mary (___?___) LEE of Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. V. Q. was born in Tennessee. and Mary in Illinois. Mardecai was born in Illinois. They are all in the 1870 census of Foster Township.)

 

      On 23 Aug 1895, the Marion County Democrat (Salem, Illinois) has, "Russell CALDWELL and Frank FRIZZELL, with their families, are leaving Patoka in wagons bound for Iowa."

 

      Addie CALDWELL GRIFFIN is buried in the Patoka Cemetery. She was born 31 Aug 1868. She died 9 Dec 1928. In the notes it lists her parents as R. S.  CALDWELL and Sarah.

James died 14 Nov 1894, Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois, of consumption. James and Catherine are buried in the Caldwell Cemetery, Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. (Note: Grave stone has his birth as the 1st and his obituary has it at the 21st.)

      James married Martha Catherine CHANDLER 15 Jan 1865, Marion County, Illinois. She was born 14 Oct 1848, Illinois, daughter of Russell Swingler and Eliza Ann (___?___) CHANDLER. Mary died 20 Jul 1900, Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois.

      On 25 Jun 1870, the census shows Jas (30) and Catherine (23) COLWELL living in Patoka Township, Marion County, Illinois. Patoka Post Office. He was born in Missouri and she was born in Illinois. With them was their daughter,  Eva COLWELL age 2, born Illinois. Also living with them was James' brother, Scott COLWELL age 18, born Missouri. Also living there was Jas WINKLER age 18, born Missouri.

      On 8 Jun 1880, the census shows James (39) and M. C. (31) CALWELL living in Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. He was born in Missouri. She was born in Illinois. With them were their children Clella age 8; John R. age ?; Rhoda age 6; Breen L. age 4; and Lessie age 1. Children all born in Illinois. James was a farmer.

      On 23 Nov 1894, the Marion County Democrat (Salem, Illinois) has, "James CALDWELL died of consumption in Foster Township on the 14th, and was buried in the family cemetery."

      On 30 Nov 1894, the Marion County Democrat (Salem, Illinois) has, "James Irwin CALDWELL died on the 14th. He was born in Franklin Co., Mo. on 21 Oct 1840; came to Illinois in 1863; married M. C. CHANDLER on 15 Jan 1865; had 10 children."

      On 14 Jun 1900, the census shows the widowed Martha COLWELL age 52, born Oct 1847, Illinois. She was living in Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. Martha had given birth to 10 children with 4 living. With her were her children, Dessie age 20, born Jun 1879; Rosela age 13, born Sep 1886; and James age 11, born May 1889. All born in Illinois.

She was said to have been born Aug 1868, Illinois, and her parents in Illinois. She was a Seamstress Dressmaker. She was said to have given birth to 1 child. With her was her son, Ellott CALDWELL age 12, born Oct 1887. Elliot was attending school. They were living with the widowed Hattie GREEN age 32, born 1868, Illinois and her family.

      On 21 Jan 1920, the census shows James C. (65) and Addie (57) GRIFFIN living in Patoka, Marion County, Illinois. He was said to have been born in Ohio, his father in Ohio and his mother in Iowa. Addie and her parents were said to have been born in Illinois. James was a blacksmith. He owned his own shop. They owned their home free of mortgage.

      Ellott married Nina MURFIN 1908, Marion County, Illinois. She was born 14 Jan 1890, Patoka, Marion County, Illinois, daughter of Dr. Warren W. and Bettie (SIMCOX) MURFIN. Nina died 13 Jan 1962, Decatur, Macon County, Illinois. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois. (Note: Dr. Warren was born in Ohio and Bettie was born in Kentucky.)

      On 21 Apr 1910, the census shows E. R. (22) and Nina (20) CALDWELL living on Locust Street, Patoka, Marion County, Illinois. He and his parents were said to have been born in Illinois. Nina was said to have been born in Illinois, father in Ohio and mother in Kentucky. Ellott was a Barber. They owned their home free of mortgage. They were said to have been married 1 year. With them was their daughter, Emily CALDWELL age 1 year and 1 month. (Note: They lived next door to Nina's widowed father, Dr. W. W. MURFIN age 47, born Ohio.)

      On 5 Jun 1917, Ellott's World War I Draft Registration Card has, Ellott Russell CALDWELL age 29, born 27 Oct 1887, Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. He was living at 127 North Maple, Centralia, Marion County, Illinois. He was a Brakeman for the I.C.R.R. (Illinois Central Railroad). He had a wife and two children under the age of 12. He was medium height and slender with brown eyes and dark brown hair.

      On 2 Jan 1920, the census shows Ellott (32) and Nina (29) CALDWELL living at 127 North Maple, Centralia, Marion County, Illinois. They and their parents were said to have been born in Illinois. Ellott was a Conductor on the steam railroad. They owned their home with a mortgage. With them were their children: Emily CALDWELL age 10, born IL; and Wesley CALDWELL age 6, born IL.

      On 4 Apr 1930, the census shows Ellott R. (42) and Nina A. (40) CALDWELL living at 219 Woodlawn Street, Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois. They and their  parents were said to have been born in Illinois. Ellot was a Conductor on the steam railroad. They were renting their home. They owned a radio. With them were their children: Emily D. CALDWELL age 21, born IL, Stenographer at the Court House; John W. CALDWELL  age 16, born IL; and Margie CALDWELL age 9, born IL.

      On 13 May 1940, the census shows Ellott R. (51) and Nina A. (49) CALDWELL living in Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois. Both said to have been born in Illinois. Said to have been living in the same place in 1935. Ellott was a Freight Brakeman for the I.C.R.R. (Illinois Central Railroad). Ellott had and 8th grade education. Nina had 4 years of high school. They were renting their home at $32.50 a month.

      In 1942, Ellott's World War II Draft Registration Card has, Ellott Russell CALDWELL age 29, born 27 Oct 1887, Marion County, Illinois. He was living at 714 North Quincy Street, Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois. He was a Conductor for the I.C.R.R. (Illinois Central Railroad). Two contact names were given: His wife, Mrs. Nina CALDWELL, and Mrs. Emily LUTTRELL of West White Street, Clinton.

    Emily Diven CALDWELL, born 29 Jan 1909, Patoka, Marion County, Illinois, daughter of Ellott Russell and Nina A. (MURFIN) CALDWELL. Emily died 10 Jan 2000, Decatur, Macon County, Illinois. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois.

      Emily married Raymond Claire LUTTRELL 28 Sep 1930, Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois. He was born 24 May 1899, DeWitt County, Illinois. Raymond died 8 Jun 1984, Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois.

      In May 1940, the census shows R. C. (40) and Emily (30) LUTTRELL living in Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois. Both said to have been born in Illinois. Both said to have been living in the same place in 1935. R.C. was a Teller at a Bank. He had 4 years of high school.  Emily had 4 years of high school. They owned their home, valued at $4,000. With them was their son, John W. LUTTRELL age 8, born IL.

      In 11 Jan 2000, the News-Gazette (Decatur, Macon County, Illinois) has, "EMILY D. LUTTRELL, 90, Of Decatur died Monday, January 10, 2000 in Decatur. A graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, in Memorial Park Cemetery in Clinton. Emily Diven Caldwell was born January 29, 1909, in Patoka, IL, the daughter of Ellott R. and Nina A. (Murfin) Caldwell. She married Raymond C. Luttrell, September 28, 1930 in Clinton, IL. He preceded her in death in June of 1984. Surviving are son John W.     Robert Strother CALDWELL, born Feb 1842, Franklin County, Missouri, son of John Sutton and Lucinda (CALDWELL) CALDWELL. Robert died 23 Dec 1908, Patoka, Marion County, Illinois (Vol. 2, Page 601). Robert and Sarah are buried in the Patoka Cemetery, Patoka, Marion County, Illinois.

      Robert married Sarah Catherine "Kate" ALTOM 5 Oct 1864, Marion County, Illinois. (Note: Marriage record has COLDWELL) Sarah was born Apr 1848, Marion County, Illinois, daughter of John Robert and Mary Ann (EDDINGTON) ALTOM (See Altom Family, #3). Sarah died 3 Oct 1931, Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois.

      (Note: I don't find them in the 1870 census of Marion County, Illinois, even though they were living there at the time.)

      On 30 Jul 1870, the census shows H. (26) and Sarah (21) CALDWELL living in Tonti Township, Marion County, Illinois. He was said to have been born in Ohio and she in Illinois. H. was a farmer. Their real estate was valued at $800 and personal property at $150. With them were: Annie CALDWELL age 4, born IL; and Sarah CALDWELL age 1, born IL. (Note: They lived between Stephen (48) and Hannah (33) ALTOM and John (23) and Mary (23) ALTOM.)

      On 8 Jun 1880, the census shows Robert S. (35) and Sarah (34) CALWELL living in Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. He was born in Missouri. She was born in Illinois. Robert was a farmer. With them were their children: Annie CALWELL age 13, born IL; Alice CALWELL age 11, born IL; William O. CALWELL age 6, born IL; John L. or S. CALWELL age 4, born IL; and Stella CALWELL age 1, born IL.

      On 14 Jun 1900, the census shows Robert (57) and Serrah (52) COLWELL living in Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. Robert was said to have been born Feb 1843, Missouri. Serrah was said to have been born Apr 1848, Illinois. With them were their children Allice age 31, born Mar 1869; William COLWELL age 26, born Nov 1863, born IL; John L.       On 24 Apr 1930, the census shows the widowed Sarah CALDWELL age 81, living in Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. Sarah was a farmer. She owned her home. With her was her daughter Alice CALDWELL age 61.

      On 5 Nov 1936, The Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "East Zion: Mr. and Mrs. Frank THOMASON and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar CALDWELL called Sunday at the Mark Greer Hospital in Vandalia to see Miss Alice CALDWELL who was in an auto wreck Saturday afternoon near Pana. Her nephew, Mr. Gilbert CALDWELL, was taking her to Decatur where she had employment for the winter. Her right arm is paralyzed and her back is injured."

Burial in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Plot F Row 16 Grave 27, Henri-Chapelle, Belgium. He is also listed as being buried in East Lawn Cemetery, Salem, Illinois

      Paul married Rada Florence GARRETT 24 Mar 1934, Clay County, Illinois. She was born 28 Jul 1910, Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois, daughter of Selby and Mary Virgie (NICHOLS) GARRETT (See Garrett Family, Chapter 11). Rada died 3 Jan 2003, Salem, Marion County, Illinois.

      On 19 Apr 1934, the Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "Wedding Bells; CALDWELL-GARRETT; The many friends of Mr. Paul CALDWELL of Zion Prairie and Miss Rada GARRETT of Sandy Branch vicinity, will be surprised to learn of their marriage, which occurred Saturday, March 24, in Clay City, Ill. Rev. WILLIS, pastor of the M.E. Church, South, performed the ceremony. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Loren CALDWELL, brother and sister-in-law of the groom, of Vandalia.       On 7 May 1942, The Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "Meadow Branch: Our school was out Friday and the teacher, Mrs. Evelyn CUMMINS, took the children to Bryan Park for the day. Mrs. Rada CALDWELL is hired to teach the coming winter."

      On 2 Sep 1943, The Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "Green Ridge: Our school started Monday Aug. 30, with Mrs. Rada CALDWELL as teacher."

      Paul served in the United States Military during World War 2, dying in Germany from wounds received in action. 22nd Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division.

      On 12 Oct 1944, the Kinmundy Express has, "Pvt. Kenneth Paul CALDWELL, Alma Lad, Dies From Wounds Received in Action in Germany: A telegram was received by Mrs. Paul CALDWELL of Alma Friday morning, stating that her husband, Pvt. Kenneth Paul CALDWELL, had been seriously wounded in action in Germany, on Sept. 17th. On Monday morning she received another telegram stating that her husband had died of wounds on Sept. 17th. This was a shock to the community of Alma as well as our own community as he was well known here. Kenneth Paul, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar CALDWELL, was born March 3, 1911, on Zion Prairie in Foster twp. On March 31, 1934, he was married to Miss Rada GARRETT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Selby GARRETT. After their marriage, they lived a short while in Vandalia where Paul was employed by the Hayes Bros. Hatchery. Then they moved to Alma where he was employed as a clerk in the Wilson Store and the Rainey Store. In 1941, he assumed the management of the C.A. Glore Lumber Yard, which position he held when he entered the services of his country. He was inducted into the army on Dec. 29, 1943, was shipped overseas, landing in England on July 1st. Here he remained until July 21st when he crossed the channel into France. He was a member of the infantry. Besides his beloved companion and parents, he leaves 2 brothers, PFC Loren CALDWELL in the Southwest Pacific, and Marion of Wilmington, Ill. After reaching England, Paul wrote to his wife that he had been converted and was leading the life of a true Christian. He was a member of Kinmundy Lodge No. 398, A.F. & A.M., and his will be the first gold star to be put upon the service rolls of the lodge. The whole community extends heart-felt sympathy to the bereaved relatives."

      In Jan 2003, The Sentinel has, "RADA  FORD, 92, DIES  -  Rada Florence CALDWELL FORD, 92, of Salem, formerly of Alma, passed away at 4:31 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2003, at Salem Township Hospital. On July 28, 1910, she was born to Shelby and Mary Virginia (NICHOLS) GARRETT in Foster Township, Marion County, Ill. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Paul CALDWELL, who proceded her in death and later married John FORD, who also preceded her in death.     A retired schoolteacher, she worked as a librarian in both Alma and Salem. She was a member of teh Alma Methodist Church; National Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma; Kinmundy Eastern Star; and United Methodist Women. Also she was a past Sunday School teacher at Alma Methodist Church. Survivors include two sisters, Lucille EAGAN of Patoka and Lorene BENDER of Centralia; a nephew, Tom GARRETT Jr. of Salem; three nieces, Barbara EASLEY of Centralia, Gloria OATES of Marion and Judy CARRELL of Flora; and two sisters-in-law, Marian GARRETT of Salem and Lucille CALDWELL of Wilmington. In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Tom GARRETT, and a niece, Betty DUNCAN. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m.  on Sunday, January 5, 2003, at the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 6 at the funeral home with John WALSH officiating. Interment followed at Alma Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or Alma Methodist Church and will be received at teh funeral home." (Note: The obit does have her father's name as Shelby, but it really is Selby.)

      Marion married Lucille A. BATES 5 Jun 1937, Marion County, Illinois. She was born 25 Aug 1918, Patoka Township, Marion County, Illinois, daughter of Louis Joseph, Sr. and Ada (ARNOLD) BATES (See Bates Family, Chapter 2). Lucille died 14 Feb 2004, Will County, Illinois.

      On 17 Jun 1937, The Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "Green Ridge: Several were surprised to hear of the wedding of Mrs. Lucille BATES and Mr. Marion CALDWELL."

      On 24 Jun 1937, The Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "Green Ridge: A kitchen shower was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul CALDWELL Tuesday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Marion CALDWELL."

      In 2003, at the death of William's sister-in-law, Rada (GARRETT)(CALDWELL) FORD, the widowed Lucille CALDWELL was living in Wilmington, Illinois.

      On 16 Jun 1900, the census shows Aurther (21) and Lulu (17) SULLENS living in Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. He was said to have been born Jun 1878 in Illinois and his parents in Illinois. She was said to have been born Jun 1882, Illinois, her father in Illinois and her mother in Missouri. He was a farmer. It says that they were recently married.

      I can't find them in the 1910 census.

      On 12 Sep 1918, Art's World War 1 Draft Registration Card has, Arthur SULLENS age 39, born 4 Jun 1879. He was living at 6500 Yale Avenue, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was an Inventory Clerk. His nearest relative was his wife, Lulu SULLENS. Art was tall and slender with blue eyes and dark brown hair.

      I can't find them in the 1920 census.

      On 6 apr 1930, the census shows Arthur (50) and Lulu (47) SULLENS living in Aurora, Kane County, Illinois. He and his parents were said to have been born in Illinois. Lulu and her mother were said to have been born in Illinois and her father in Missouri. They were renting at $40 a month. They owned a radio. Arthur worked for the state. Lulu had a beauty shop in her home. With them was their daughter, Irene SULLENS age 27, born IL; and granddaughter, Patsy Lee SULLENS age 5, born IL. There was also a roomer living with them.

      On 22 Apr 1943, the Kinmundy Express has, "East Zion (from last week): Mr. Peck CALDWELL received word Sunday of his brother-in-law’s death, Mr. Art SULLENS of Aurora, Ill."

      Peck married Rose WILLIAMS 13 Mar 1910, Marion County, Illinois. She was 18 and he was 19 at time of marriage. She was born 1891, daughter of Andrew J. and Lillie Belle McWHIRTER WILLIAMS. Rose died 19 Mar 1968.

      On 17 Jun 1917, Peck's World War 1 Draft Registration Card has, Ira Younger CALDWELL age 27, born 18 Apr 1890, Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. He was living in Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois, with an Alma address. He was a self-employed farmer with a wife and 4 children. He was tall and slender with blue eyes and sandy color hair.

      On 3 Jan 1920, the census shows Ira Y. (29) and Rose (28) CALDWELL living in Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. They owned their home free of mortgage. With them were their children Hazel age 7; Helen age 6; Emogene age 4; and Archie age 3. Ira owned his farm. Both of Ira's parents were born in Missouri.

      In Apr 1928, Ira CALDWELL was elected Supervisor of Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois.

      On 27 Jun 1935, the Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "Green Ridge: The community was shocked to hear of the death of Mr. Loren ALBERT, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Peck CALDWELL." (Note: I don't understand this, as Loren didn't died until 1990.)

      On 22 Apr 1943, the Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "East Zion (from last week): Mr. Peck CALDWELL received word Sunday of his brother-in-law’s death, Mr. Art SULLENS of Aurora, Ill."

      Hazel married Argie G. HOWARD 26 Nov 1929, Marion County, Illinois. She was 17 and he was 26 at time of marriage. He was born 16 Feb 1903, Marion or Franklin County, Illinois, son of Eli and Eva (REECE) HOWARD. (Note: His parents were married in 1902 in Franklin County and moved to Tonti Township, Marion County, Illinois by 1910.) Argie died 22 Feb 1981, Oblong, Crawford County, Illinois.

      Helen married 2nd James Relza “Bill” HEADLEY. He was born 1904, Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois, son of Edward Eli and Margaret Mae (BRADLEY) HEADLEY (See Headley Family, Chapter 2).      

      Helen married 3rd Kenneth "Kenny" PEDICORD 21 Nov 1961. Kenny was born 25 Ian 1924. He died 3 Nov 1995.

      Kenny served in the United States Army during WW2. Member of Givens Chapel Church.

      When Helen died, she had 37 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

      Bud married Delila McWHIRTER 25 Jun 1938, St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of Leslie and Mildred (SULLENS) McWHIRTER (See McWhirter Family, Chapter 14, #3-1).

      Lived in Alma, Illinois. He was a farmer. Lived at the Peck Caldwell farm.

      Delilah underwent an appendicitis operation in St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia in Dec 1932.

      On 4 Jan 1934, The Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "East Zion: Archie CALDWELL had the misfortune of breaking his arm while cranking his car."

      On 30 Jun 1938, the Kinmundy Express (Kinmundy, Illinois) has, "Green Ridge: Mr. Archie "Bud" CALDWELL and Miss Delila McWHIRTER were married June 25 at St. Louis. The bride is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lessie McWHIRTER, who resides west of Alma. The groom is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Peck CALDWELL, and is engaged in farming with his father.       Will married 1st Elizabeth Delila SMITH 3 May 1874, Marion County, Illinois. She was born 27 Jan 1858, Illinois, daughter of Mordecai and Sarah (PURSLEY) SMITH (See Smith Family, Chapter 2). Delila died 31 Mar 1882, age 24 years, 2 months and 4 days. Burial in the Jones Cemetery, Jones Road, Section 28, Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois. Delila's parents are also buried in the Jones Cemetery.

      Will's father, Robert, was the son of Andrew and Nancy (FARROW) CALDWELL. William L. was the 1st cousin of the other CALDWELL's who settled in Foster Township.

They were living with her parents, Mordecai (76) and Rachel (57) SMITH. He was born in North Carolina, as were his parents. She was born in Ohio and her parents in Pennsylvania. Two others in the party, Edith HINES and Gladys CALDWELL, 17, both of Alma, were dismissed after treatment at the hospital. The 4 became ill after eating canned salmon sandwiches."
