In the year 1912, Kinmundy High School was accredited by the U. of I. and since that time has been making gradual progress.
These few remarks will concern the school from the year 1910 to the present time. Our new school building was erected in 1910 and Mr. Harwood was Superintendent.
In the year 1912, December 3, the school was accredited by the University of Illinois. Mr. E.V. Latham was superintendent at this time.
Several different teachers and superintendents have had charge of the educational interests since the high school was first established.
In the year 1924, a new High School Auditorium was built, which serves several purposes athletics, school plays, activities and community center. It is needless to say the school and community are very proud of this magnificent building.

Kinmundy High School
The Kinmundy High School is a four year high school, offering a course of four years work approved by the State Department of Public Instruction and the University of Illinois.
The school prepares for college those who expect to go, but its chief aim is to help prepare its young people for later life, not only to earn a living, but to appreciate the finer things in life and discharge the duties of citizenship in an intelligent manner.
The school has ample laboratory facilities for the Sciences. The maps and library have been enlarged and now meet most all the demands.
Kinmundy has one of the finest and best equipped auditorium gymnasiums in the county, providing ample room and stage equipment for any community assembly.
History of Kinmundy
Kinmundy, a city of about nine hundred, is situated on the Chicago branch of the Illinois Central Railroad. It was laid out in April 1857 on Section 22 which brings it near the center of the township.
W.T. Sprouse laid out the city. Isaac Eagan laid out an addition in 1858. In 1895 the Chicago and Eastern Illinois was built through the township, passing through the western part of the town. The city and township are said to be named after a Scotchman, who was a stockholder in the Illinois Central Railroad. W.B. Eagan built the first house in 1857 in which he kept a general store and was the first Postmaster. Mr. Eagan had kept a country store two or three years before Kinmundy was laid out.
The Illinois Central depot was built in 1858, which was later replaced by another. At the south side of town Willis Wilborn built a small store in 1855. Dr. Skilling kept the first drug store and W.W. Elliott was the first practicing doctor. Henry Eagan was the first village blacksmith.
The first bank was the W.T. Haymond & Company Bank, organized in 1870. On the death of Mr. Haymond in 1899, a National Bank was organized, which is at present one of the safe banks in the country. There was a private bank called the Warren Bank but which is now the State Bank of Kinmundy.
The building of the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad gave an impetus to business of Kinmundy, and several brick business houses were built, but a serious fire in 1904 destroyed about one-half of the business part of the town. It however has been rebuilt. A short time afterwards another fire destroyed a large part of the remainder of the town. It too, has been rebuilt.

Our Community
The annual of a high school, in order to be complete, should contain a description of the community in which the high school is located, and for that reason we have endeavored to give a brief description of our community as follows:
Kinmundy has a population of about 900 people, and is located in the northeast part of Marion county, on the Illinois Central and C. & E.I. railroads. A hard road is expected in the near future, which will make transportation facilities excellent.
Kinmundy is a great fruit producing center. Apples, peaches, pears and strawberries are produced in great quantities. A strawberry association recently formed has twelve acres of berries which will soon bear.
Kinmundy has excellent marketing facilities and for that reason lima beans and pultry have an important place in the community.
Kinmundy has two banks, two drug stores, four general stores, four grocery stores, two clothing stores, one hardware store, two furniture stores, three restaurants, a bakery, three meat markets, two up-to-date garages, one large poultry store, an ice plant and five barber shops.
Kinmundy is supplied with electricity for light and power by a plant owned and operated by the city. A new fire engine makes the fire protection very good.
Kinmundy has five churches: Christian, Methodist, Southern Methodist, Church of God, and Catholic.
Kinmundy has the following fraternal orders: Masons, Eastern Star, Odd Fellows, Daughters of Rebekah, Woodmen, Royal Neighbors, Knights of Pythias.
Kinmundy has a weekly paper which is a great boost and help to a community of this size.
Kinmundy has beautiful homes and neighborly people.
In 1910 our school building was erected with Mr. Harwood as Superintendent. Two years later, during Mr. E.V. Lathams term as Superintendent, on December 3rd, 1912, our school was accredited by the U. of I. and since that time has been making gradual progress.
Several different superintendents and teachers have had charge of the educational interests since the high school was first established.
In 1924 our Gymnasium was built, which has and will serve for many purposes athletics, school plays, activities, and a community center.
About ten years ago our school ground was enlarged, making it possible to have a track, a softball diamond, and a tennis court.
We have also enlarged our curriculum by adding new subjects. In 1929 our first Physical Training Classes were started. In 1932 Junior Business Training was added, and in 1935 a new Commercial Course consisting of Typing, Shorthand, and Bookkeeping was added.
Those now employed are: Mr. V.V. Barcroft, Superintendent; Mr. J.F. Hickman, Latin and Science; Mr. Kaeser, Athletics, History, and Commerce; Miss Anna Margaret Jones, English and History; Miss Eugenia C. Boyd, Commercial.
